If you’re paying any attention you’ve noticed the sharp increase in the implementation of AI and robotics—we’re fast becoming an automated world. You also understand the vital importance of diversification and differentiation, professionally and in business.
I’m fairly well-read but certainly no expert on the subject, however from what I’ve seen robotics are primarily optimized for a relatively narrow range of activities while AI seems best suited to specialized functions—but this is rapidly evolving.
A wide and reasonably deep skill set should forestall obsolescence from automation while deep development of so-called “soft-skills” will improve your odds when competing with AI. In other words, LEARN TO BE MORE HUMAN. And seeking out fields where a real person is extremely arduous to replace with a machine would be prudent.
While I’m a fan of technology, I’ve been cautious not to lose sight of the value of hard physical and mental work, and to not delegate every task to an application or machine simply because it makes my life easier today.
I believe this present atmosphere of automation has fundamentally effected humans. We’ve become more robotic—more canned in our responses and less attuned to intuition. Words flow before our heart and mind have been consulted for an appropriate response. We have eyes but we don’t really see, we have ears but don’t take care to listen (Mark 8:18). And few have developed the art of critical thinking with sound reasoning.
Learn to be more autonomous, take inventory of basic survival skills. There will likely come a time when the very skills surrendered to automation will be required for human survival.
The article below is a few years old but the video is definitely worth watching if only for a reminder of how quickly and far-reaching new technologies are disrupting the norm. The other articles are both from 2019.

- A.I. Expert Says Automation Could Replace 40% of Jobs in 15 years
- 71% of those working in production believe AI could make their job obsolete
